Seven-Layer Co-Extrusion: How Stretch Film "Stacks Up" High Performance
2026-08-27[Lead-in] Two rolls of clear stretch film may look identical, yet one can only handle simple bundling while the other secures an entire pallet load with confidence. The difference often lies not in thickness, but in structure. Multi-layer co-extrusion is precisely the kind of process innovation in film manufacturing that "demands performance from structure."
The Inherent Weakness of Monolayer Film
Monolayer stretch film is blown from a single resin, making it difficult to balance strength, cling and clarity at the same time: increase the cling and you may sacrifice stiffness; make it tougher and transparency can suffer. Faced with packaging demands that call for film that is both strong and easy to work with, monolayer film is often forced to trade one property for another.
Seven-Layer Co-Extrusion: Building Film Like a Sandwich

The seven-layer co-extrusion process melts different resin formulations in multiple extruders, converges them inside the die, and extrudes the film in a single pass. Each layer has its own role: the core layer provides structural strength, the intermediate layers enhance puncture and tear resistance, and the surface layers deliver self-cling and light transmission. By combining the strengths of each layer, the film achieves a balanced performance profile that no single material could deliver on its own.
The Practical Value for Packaging
For customers, the direct benefit of a multi-layer structure is "using less film to achieve more secure loads": improved puncture resistance reduces cargo damage in transit; built-in cling eliminates the need for additional adhesive coating; and high film clarity allows scanning and inventory checks without unpacking, improving warehousing and stocktaking efficiency.
Pangtai in Practice
Zhejiang Pangtai New Materials Co., Ltd. has been engaged in the high-performance packaging materials field since 2013. It adopts the seven-layer co-extrusion process to produce high-end stretch film products and has independently developed metallocene-modified formulations that enhance product performance while helping customers control
